Call For Entries for
“The Word As Art”

The Arts at the Library program at the Salida Regional Library and the Art in Public Spaces program, through the Arkansas Valley Art Center, are holding a juried art show entitled “The Word As Art” as an Art Walk 2008 event. All Chaffee County artists are invited to enter. All entries must incorporate an aspect of any written language, whether a single letter, a word or words, or an entire alphabet. The show will hang from May 6 through June 29, 2008 at the Salida Regional Library.

Due to limited space, there are specific size limitations, and entries are restricted to one per person. Wall hung and three dimensional works will be accepted, and the library has a glass case in which some smaller works can be displayed. Art work can be for sale.

Maximum dimensions for wall hung art are 18”x 24”, outside dimensions. All wall art must have a wired hanging system (no sawtooth hangers or hooks).

Maximum dimensions for three-dimensional works are 18”x 18” base size and 24” in height.

Drop off date for entries is Sunday May 4, 2008 from 1-5 pm at the Salida Regional Library. Art work not accepted for the show must be picked up on Wednesday May 7 from 5-7 pm. Artists will be notified by phone or e-mail if their work is not accepted into the show. Art work accepted for the show must remain hanging for the entire length of the show. Pick up date will be Sunday June 29 from 3-5 pm.

There is no fee to enter this show. Entry forms will be filled out at the time of drop off. Although the library will take the greatest care in handling artwork, artists leaving their work do so at their own discretion and liability. If the artist feels insurance is necessary, it will be the artist’s responsibility to obtain insurance.
